SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 2

Declaring the Appalachian dulcimer the official state musical
instrument of West Virginia.
Whereas, West Virginia does not have an official state
musical instrument; and
Whereas, The Appalachian dulcimer is sometimes called the
lap dulcimer, the dulcimore, the duckslammer, the devil's walking
stick, the fretted zither and the hog fiddle; and
Whereas, Some believe the Appalachian dulcimer has its roots
in our region; and
Whereas, The Appalachian dulcimer is played by West
Virginians of all ages; and
Whereas, Many of the melodious tunes that are played on the Appalachian dulcimer are part of West Virginia's heritage;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Appalachian dulcimer is hereby declared the
official musical instrument of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor.
